The non-agricultural jobless rate decreased to 12.7 percent from 15.2 percent a year earlier. At the same time, the youth unemployment rate (15-24 age group) dropped to 19.9 percent from 24.5 percent, and for the people aged 15-64, it also fell to 11.1 percent from 13.3 percent.
Employment increased by 1.357 million to 28.029 million in January of 2018, as the non-agricultural sector added 1.286 million jobs and the farm sector added 70 thousand jobs. Employment rose in industry (0.1 percentage points), construction (0.5 percentage points) while was steady in services. Meanwhile, it fell in agriculture (-0.6 percentage points). The overall employment rate went up to 46.4 percent from 44.8 percent in January of 2017.
The labour force rose by 780 million to 31.438 million in January, bringing the participation rate to 52.1 percent from 51.5 percent a year ago, while those detached from it went up by 87 thousand to 28.922 million.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate stood at 9.9 percent, compared to the previous month.
