Greece Unemployment Rate Up to All-Time High 27.2% in January


Unemployment rate in January 2013 was 27.2 percent compared to 21.5 percent in January 2012 and 25.7 percent in December 2012. The number of employed amounted to 3.62 million persons. The number of unemployed amounted to 1.39 million while the number of inactive to 3.35 million.

The number of employed decreased by 270,629 persons compared with January 2012 (a 7.0 percent rate of decrease) and by 11,653 persons compared with December 2012 (a 0.3 percent rate of decrease). Unemployed increased by 281,048 persons (a 26.3 percent rate of increase) compared with January 2012 and by 95,709 persons compared with December 2012 (a 7.6 percent rate of increase).

Inactive persons (persons that neither worked neither looked for a job) decreased by 878 persons (no significant change) compared with January 2012 and by 535 persons compared with December 2012 (no significant change).
