Dutch Inflation Rate Falls Further to 4-1/2 Year Low


Netherlands’ annual inflation rate dropped to 0.8 percent in March of 2014, down from 1.06 percent in the previous month and 2.92 a year earlier. The CPI fell more than expected, reaching the lowest level since June of 2010.

Prices decelerated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.3 percent yoy from 6.2 percent compared with February of 2014) and recreation and culture (0.2 percent from 0.8 percent).

Also, downwards pressures came from cost of clothing and footwear (-1.5 percent from -0.8 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.3 percent from -0.1 percent).

On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.8 percent in March, as clothing and footwear cost rose by 21.7 percent.
