Switzerland Unemployment Rate Down to 3.2% in March


The unemployment rate fell from 3.4 percent in February 2013 to 3.2 percent in March. At end of March 139 thousand unemployed were enrolled at the regional employment centers, 7 thousand less than in the previous month.

Compared to January, youth (15-24 year-olds) unemployment decreased by 1,723 persons (-8.4 percent) to 18,802. Compared to the same month last year, this represents an increase of 1,352 persons (+7.7 percent).

Total 194 thousand job seekers were registered, 6 thousand less than in the previous month. Compared to the same period last year this figure rose by 13 thousand people (+7.4 percent). The number of reported vacancies in the regional employment centers declined to 16 thousand.
 
The number of persons who had exhausted their entitlement to unemployment benefit during the month of January 2013 was 3,296.
