Switzerland Jobless Rate Edges Down to 3.6%



Switzerland unadjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.6 percent in March of 2016 from 3.7 percent in the previous month and in line with expectations, as the number of unemployed and jobseekers were down.

In March, there were 155,324 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 6,093 less persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 10,216 persons (+7.0 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 218,187, less 4,701 persons than in the previous month and 13,921 more than a year earlier (+6.8 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) decreased by 1,584 persons (-7.7 percent) to 18,907. Compared to March 2015, this represents an increase of 706 people (+3.9 percent).

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.5 percent after registering 3.4 percent in the previous month.
