Swiss Unemployment Rate Falls in March


Swiss unadjusted jobless rate decreased to 3.3 percent in March of 2014 from 3.5 percent in the previous month.

In March, there were 142846 people registered as unemployed at the regional employment centers, less 6413 persons than in the previous month, but 3853 more persons (+2.8 percent) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

Youth unemployment (15 to 24-year-old) decreased by 1565 persons (-8.1 percent) to 17854. Compared to the same month last year, it decreased by 948 persons (-5.0 percent). 

A total of 199911 job seekers were registered, 6023 less than in the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, this figure rose 2.9 percent. The number of job vacancies increased by 699 to 14741 places.

According to preliminary data provided by the unemployment funds, 3742 people have exhausted their entitlements to unemployment insurance in the month of January of 2014.
