Irish Jobless Rate Down to 8.6%


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was recorded at 8.6 percent in March 2016, down from 8.8 percent in January and 9.8 percent a year earlier. The jobless rate fell to its lowest level since December of 2008, as number of unemployed persons decreased by 2.9 thousand to 187.7 thousand.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 187,700 in March, a decrease of 2,900 when compared to the previous month or a decrease of 23,400 when compared to March 2015.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for males edged down to 10.2 percent from 10.4 percent in the previous month and for females went down to 6.7 percent from 6.8 percent. The number of males unemployed dropped by 2,400 to 122,000, while the number of females unemployed declined by 500 to 65,700.

Youth unemployment rate was recorded at 19 percent, down from 20.0 percent in the previous month.
