Germany Inflation Rate Down to 1.4% in March


German consumer prices rose by 0.5 percent on the month and by 1.4 percent on the year in March, according to preliminary data from the Federal Statistics Office.

According to preliminary data, consumer prices in Germany are expected to rise by 1.4 percent in March 2013 compared with March 2012. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office also reports that the consumer prices are expected to increase by 0.5 percent on February 2013. The price rise for energy (+0.5 percent on March 2012) was markedly lower than the general inflation rate. 

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 1.8 percent in March 2013 on March 2012. It is expected to rise by 0.4 percent on February 2013.
