Pakistan Inflation Down to 6.57% in March


In the 12 months through March, inflation rose to 6.57 percent, the lowest value since August of 2007.

CPI inflation, General, increased by 6.6% on year-on-year basis in March 2013 as compared to 7.4% in the previous month and 10.8% in March 2012. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.4% in March 2013 as compared to a decrease of 0.3% in the previous month and an increase of 1.2% in March 2012.

Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 9.0% in March 2013 as compared to 9.6% in February 2013 (YoY) and by 10.8% in March 2012. Core NFNE inflation on MoM basis increased by 0.4% in March 2013 as compared to 0.4% a month earlier and 1.0% in March 2012. 
 
Year-on-year - Top few commodities which varied from previous year i.e. March 2012 are given below: 
 
Food Items Increased: Tomatoes (100.22%), Wheat (22.89%), Wheat Flour (19.31%), Honey (18.57%), Rice (17.30%), Cigarettes (17.11%), Wheat Products (15.67%), Tea (14.31%), Milk Powder (13.55%), Beans (12.47%), Onions (11.33%), Potatoes (10.66%) and Milk Fresh (10.62%). 
 
Decreased: Spices (18.03%), Fresh Fruits (12.99%), Fresh Vegetables (11.86%), Chicken (11.50%), Pulse Mash (8.28%), Pulse Moong (7.68%), Sugar (6.21%), Gram Whole (5.57%), Vegetable Ghee (1.51%), Pulse Masoor (0.92%) and Eggs (0.88%). 
 
Non-food Items Increased: Text Books (44.71%), Woolen Readymade Garments (19.97%), Cleaning & Laundry (17.99%), Dopatta (17.48%), Electricity (16.39%), Doctor (MBBS) Clinic Fee (15.06%), Tailoring (14.62%), Readymade Garments (14.56%), Newspaper (13.68%) and Hosiery 
(13.34%). 
 
Decreased: Gas (46.08%).
