Tanzania Inflation Rate Unchanged in February


Tanzania's annual inflation rate was 6.0 percent in February of 2014, unchanged from the previous month. The government targets 5.0 percent inflation by June.

Year-on-year, food prices rose 6.2 percent, slowing from 6.6 percent in each of the previous two months. Housing, electricity and gas prices also decelerated to 13.3 percent (14.9 percent in January) while transport cost was almost unchanged (9.0 percent versus 8.9 percent in January). 

On a monthly basis, prices increased 1.4 percent, 0.4 percentage points below January’s rate. The highest upward pressures came from food prices (2.4 percent) and housing, water, electricity and gas cost (0.6 percent).
