Switzerland Jobless Rate Edges Down in February


Switzerland unadjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.7 percent in February of 2016 from 3.8 percent in the previous month and less than market expectations. The number of unemployed was down while that of jobseekers went up.

In February, there were 161,417 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 2,227 less persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 11,496 persons (+7.7 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 222,888, more 137 persons than in the previous month and 16,519 more than a year earlier (+8.0 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) decreased by 689 persons (-3.3 percent) to 20,491. Compared with February 2015, this represents an increase of 1,450 people (+7.6 percent).

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.4 percent, unchanged from the previous month.
