Irish Unemployment Rate Falls Below 12%


In February of 2014, Ireland’s jobless rate continued its downward trend and fell to 11.9 percent, down from a revised 12 percent in the previous month.

Those claiming jobless benefits - The Live Register total - recorded a monthly decrease of 2,500 in February 2014, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 398,300.

The number of long term claimants in February 2014 was 180,496.  54.7 percent (217,573) of all claimants were short term claimants.  The comparable figure for February 2013 was 55.8 percent (239,409).  

There were 81,204 casual and part-time workers, which represents 20.4 percent of the total Live Register. This compares with 20.9 percent one year earlier when there were 89,780 casual and part-time workers on the Live Register.
