Spain Inflation Rate Beats Forecasts


Consumer prices in Spain are expected to increase 1.1 percent year-on-year in February of 2018, following a 0.6 percent rise in January which was the lowest inflation rate since September of 2016. It compares with market forecasts of 0.9 percent. Prices of electricity increased in February of 2018 compared to a fall a year earlier and were one of the main drivers of the increase in the CPI, preliminary estimates showed.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to edge up 0.1 percent, following a 1.1 percent drop in January.

The EU-harmonised index is expected to rise 1.2 percent compared to a year earlier, following a 0.7 percent gain in January and higher than market forecasts of 0.9 percent. Compared to the prior month, the index is seen rising 0.1 percent, after a 1.5 percent fall in January.
