Mexico Unemployment Rate Rises in January


In January of 2014, Mexican jobless rate edged up to 5.05 percent, after falling in December last year to a 5-year low at 4.25 percent.

A year earlier, the unemployment rate reached 5.42 percent. 

The jobless rate for men rose to 5.08 percent from 4.24 percent in December and the one for women edged up by 0.73 percentage points to 5.01 percent.

Among regions, Aguascalientes recorded the highest jobless rate (6.18 percent) and Yucatán the lowest one (2.51 percent). In the Federal District, unemployment rate rose to 5.71 percent from 5.26 percent in December.
