Colombia Posts Trade Surplus in December


After two consecutive months of trade deficits, Colombian registered a trade surplus of 0.45 billion dollars in the last month of 2012.

Exports rose to 4.93 billion dollars in December from 4.83 billion registered in the previous month. Nevertheless, in a year over year basis Columbia´s exports contracted 11.2 percent in December, mainly due to a 24 percent decline in the sales of manufactured products and a drop of 5.7 percent in the sales of oil and other mining products.

Imports declined to 4.48 billion in December from 5.17 billion dollars registered in November.  In comparison to the same month last year, Colombia´s imports fell 0.5 percent.

In the full year of 2012, Colombia registered a trade surplus of 1.1 billion dollars. Exports rose 5.7 percent and imports 7.2 percent in relation to the previous year.
