Russia Jobless Rate Unchanged at 5.8% in January


Russian unemployment rate was recorded at 5.80 percent in January of 2016, unchanged from the previous month and below market expectations. The number of unemployed people was steady at 4.4 million while economically active decreased by 0.9 million to 75.8 million (52 percent of population).

The number of unemployed people came in at 4428 thousand from 4425 thousand in December. A year earlier, the figure was 4167 thousand. 

The number of economically active people decreased by 0.9 million to 75.8 million (52 percent of population) in January. Compared to January of 2015 the figure decreased by 0.1 million.

Nominal wages rose 3.1 percent year-on-year to an average RUB 32122 and real pay fell 6.1 percent. Real disposable income shrank 6.3 percent.
