Swiss Unemployment Rate Stable in January


Switzerland’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.5 percent in January of 2014. The number of job seekers rose by 2975 to 208777. Compared to the same period last year, the number of unemployed persons rose by 7000.

Youth unemployment (15 - to 24-year-old) increased by 552 persons (+2.8 percent) to 20 533. Compared to the same month last year, this represents a decrease of 674 persons (-3.2 percent).

In November of 2013 4 390 people were affected by short-time working, 462 persons more (+11.8 percent) than in the previous month. 

According to preliminary data, the number of unemployment persons who had exhausted their rights to unemployment compensation during the month of November of 2013, was 2 822 people.
