Kenya Inflation Rate Rises to 7.2% in January


In January of 2014, Kenyan annual inflation rate increased to 7.2 percent, slightly up from 7.15 percent registered in December of 2013.

On a year, the biggest increases were reported for prices of Recreation & Culture (+12.1 percent), Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+10.1 percent), Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+7.7 percent), Restaurant & Hotels (+7.3 percent) and Transport (+6.8 percent). The cost of Communication decreased by 3.3 percent. 

Compared to the previous month, CPI grew by 1.1 percent with prices of Education (+3.7 percent), Recreation & Culture (+2.93 percent) and Transport (+1.95 percent) increasing the most.
