Deflation in Spain Deepens

Spanish consumer prices are expected to drop 1.4 percent year-on-year in January of 2015, following a 1.1 percent decline in the previous month. It is the highest decrease on record.

Preliminary estimates showed consumer prices declined for the seventh consecutive month due to a drop in diesel and gasoline cost.

On a monthly basis, prices are expected to decrease 1.7 percent, the biggest drop since mid-1963.

The EU-harmonized index decreased 2.2 percent from December and 1.5 percent year-on-year.
