Russian Jobless Rate Below Expectations in December


Russian unemployment rate fell to 5.1 percent in December 2017 from 5.3 percent in the same month of the previous year and below market expectations of 5.2 percent.

The number of unemployed people fell by 227 thousand to 3.876 million from 4.103 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Compared to November, the number of unemployed decreased by 11 thousand from 3.887 million.

Real wages in Russia rose 4.6 percent year-on-year in December, easing from a 5.8 percent increase in the previous month and below market expectations of 5.2 percent. Average nominal wages jumped 7.2 percent to RUB 50,500 while annual inflation rate stood at a record low of 2.5 percent. Meanwhile, real disposable income dropped 1.8 percent, after a 0.1 percent fall in November.
