Russia Unemployment Rate Steady at 5.8%


Russian jobless rate was recorded at 5.80 percent in December of 2015, the same as in the previous month and remaining the highest since April of 2015. The number of unemployed people decreased marginally while economically active edged up slightly.

The number of unemployed people decreased by 9 thousand to 4426 thousand in December. A year earlier, the figure was 3974 thousand. 

The number of economically active people increased by 0.1 million to 76.7 million (53 percent of population) in December. Compared to December of 2014 the figure increased by 1.3 thousand.

Nominal wages rose 1.6 percent year-on-year to an average RUB 42684 (+4.6 percent in November) and real pay fell 10 percent after dropping 10.4 percent in the previous month. Real disposable income shrank 0.7 percent (-5.4 percent in November).
