Chinese Quarterly GDP Growth Slows in Q4


The Chinese economy advanced 1.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in the last three months of 2015, slowing from a 1.8 percent expansion in the previous period and lower than market expectations of a 1.7 percent increase.

Year-on-year, the GDP expanded 6.8 percent, the lowest performance since early 2009 and bringing full 2015 growth to 6.9 percent, the weakest since 1990. Secondary industry, or manufacturing growth slowed to 6.0 percent in 2015 from 7.3 percent in 2014 and the services sector expanded by 8.3 percent, higher than 7.8 percent in 2014.

The government had targeted around 7 percent growth for 2015 and 6.5 percent for 2016.
