Mexico Unemployment Rate Down to 5-Year Low


In December of 2013, Mexican not seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 4.25 percent, the lowest rate in more than five years, as employment in services rose.

Among employed people 42.2 percent were working in services (41.5 percent last month), 19.5 percent in commerce (19.4 percent in October), 15.8 percent in manufacturing (down from 16.1 percent), 13.9 percent in agriculture (14.2 percent in November) and 7.1 percent in construction (7.4 percent in the previous month).

Regionally, Querétaro recorded the highest jobless rate (6.13 percent) and Campeche the lowest one (1.96 percent). In the Federal District, unemployment rate fell slightly to 5.26 percent, from 5.42 percent in November.
