Ghana Inflation Rate at 5-Year High
Ghana consumer prices increased an annual 17 percent in December, the same as in November. The inflation rate has been rising for the last 15 months, remaining within double digit since January of 2013.
Year-on-year, the highest price increases were recorded for housing, water, electricity and gas (+35.2 percent); transport (+30.8 percent); recreation and culture (+22.8 percent); health (19.4 percent) and alcohol and tobacco (+17.3 percent). Food cost rose 6.8 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 1 percent. Cost of clothing and footwear rose the most (2.7 percent) and prices of hotels, cafes and restaurants were flat. Food prices increased 0.7 percent and transport went up 0.8 percent.
