India Wholesale Inflation at 0.11% in December


Indian wholesale prices increased by 0.11 percent in December of 2014 after being flat in the previous month driven by a surge in food cost.

Year-on-year, food prices rose 5.2 percent, accelerating from a 0.63 percent increase in the previous month. Among food prices, fruits recorded the highest increase (17.87 percent), followed by potatoes (13.76 percent) and milk (9.72 percent). In contrast, onion prices dropped 18.54 percent, vegetables fell 4.78 percent and wheat decreased 2.46 percent. 

Petrol prices fell 11.96 percent, following a 9.96 percent drop last month and cost of diesel decreased by 6.31 percent (2.97 percent in November).

In December, cost of manufactured products increased 1.57 percent, down from 2.04 percent in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices declined 0.94 percent, following a 1.31 percent fall in November.
