Swiss Unemployment Rate Up to 3.5% in December


In December, Switzerland's jobless rate was registered at 3.5 percent, up from 3.2 percent in the previous month as the number of unemployed increased by 10.4 thousand persons. Youth unemployment increased slightly by 654 persons.

At the end of December, there were 149 thousand persons registered as unemployed at the regional employment centers, 7.13 thousand more than in the same month of the previous year. The number of job openings fell by 1.8 thousand to 9.75 thousand.

A total of 205.8 thousand people were looking for a job, 9.28 thousand more than in the previous month. Compared to the same period last year this figure went up by 8.9 thousand persons or 4.5 percent.
