Italy Jobless Rate Falls Less than Expected in November

Italy’s unemployment rate fell to 10.5 percent in November 2018 from 10.6 percent in the previous month but above market expectations of 10.1 percent. The number of unemployed declined by 0.9 percent while employment remained unchanged.

The number of unemployed dropped by 25 thousand from the previous month to 2.735 million in November, while the number of employed was virtually unchanged at 23.238 million and those detached from the labour force rose by 26 thousand to 13.229 million.

Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, went down to 31.6 percent from 32.2 percent in October. 

The country's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, was at 58.6 percent, unchanged from the previous period. The labour force participation rate fell to 65.7 percent from 65.8 percent.

In the three months to November, unemployment increased by 35 thousand while employment decreased by 26 thousand compared with the June-to-August period. Temporary employment edged up while declined fof permanent contracts and independent.
