Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.3 percent in December 2018, unchanged from the previous month's near 11-year low, as the number of unemployed held steady at 127 thousand.
The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 127,100 in December 2018, down from 127,700 when compared to the November 2018 figure and a decrease of 20,000 when compared to December 2017.
The unemployment rate for males was recorded at 5.3 percent, unchanged from November and compared to 6.5 percent a year earlier; while for females it decreased to 5.3 percent from 5.4 percent in the previous month and 5.8 percent in December 2017. The number of males unemployed decreased by 300 from the previous month to 68,400 and the number of females declined by 300 to 58,700.
The youth unemployment rate fell to 12.2 percent in December from 12.3 percent in the prior month. It was the lowest jobless rate since May 2008.
Unemployment has fallen sharply since the jobless rate hit a high of 16 percent in early 2012.
