Turkey Inflation Rate Up to 8.81%


Consumer prices in Turkey increased 8.81 percent year-on-year in December of 2015, higher than an 8.1 percent rise in November and the biggest jump since November of 2014.

Prices of hotels, cafes and restaurants recorded the highest annual increase (up 13.23 percent), followed by recreation and culture (11.56 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (11 percent), furnishings and household equipment (10.95 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.87 percent). 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.21 percent, the slowest gain in five months. The highest monthly rise was recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.24 percent), followed by furnishings and household equipment (0.53 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (0.45 percent), housing (0.43 percent) and hotels, cafes and restaurants (0.33 percent). In contrast, the biggest decrease was observed for clothing and footwear (-1.98 percent), transportation (-0.57 percent), communications (-0.22 percent) and recreation and culture (-0.17 percent).
