Japan Current Account Surplus Widens in March
Japan's current account surplus widened to JPY 2,650 billion in March of 2021 from JPY 1,929 billion in the same month of the previous year and compared to market expectations of a surplus of JPY 2,800 billion. The goods account surplus climbed to JPY 9,831 brillion from JPY 1,326 billion a year earlier, with exports surging 16.6 percent while imports rising 3.1 percent. In addition, the services account shortfall narrowed sharply to JPY 471 billion from JPY 1,111 billion. Meantime, the primary income surplus fell slightly to JPY 20,452 billion from JPY 2,1811 billion a year earlier, while the secondary income gap widened to JPY 3,311 billion from JPY 2,727 billion.
