The Nikkei Japan Manufacturing PMI fell unexpectedly to 48.5 in February 2019 from a final 50.3 in January, missing market expectations of 50.4, a flash estimate showed. It was the first decline in factory activity since June 2016, dragged down by a faster drop in both output and new order and a further fall in export sales while sentiment turned negative for the first time in over six years amid rising international headwinds.
