Dutch Trade Surplus Narrows in January

The Netherlands’ trade surplus narrowed to EUR 11.08 billion in January 2025 from EUR 13.26 billion a year earlier.
Exports rose 2.9% year-on-year to EUR 67.43 billion, with sales increasing to EU countries (+0.2%) but declining to non-EU countries (-0.4%).
Among commodities, exports saw notable gains in food and live animals (+15.9%), chemical products (+14.2%), and raw materials (+13.3%).
Meanwhile, imports grew at a faster pace, rising 5.9% to EUR 56.35 billion, driven by higher purchases from both EU (+4.9%) and non-EU (+6.8%) countries.
Import growth was particularly strong for food and live animals (+18.5%), chemical products (+11.7%), and raw materials (+7.6%).
