Latvia Retail Sales Fall the Most in Nearly 2 Years

Retail sales in Latvia fell by 2% year-on-year in May 2025, reversing a 0.6% gain in the previous month.

This marked the sharpest contraction since September 2023, as sales declined for non-food products (-0.1% vs 3.6% in April), particularly in sales of cultural and recreational goods, household electrical appliances, and sales at stalls and markets.

In addition, sales decreased at a faster pace for food products (-5% vs -1).

Meanwhile, the decline in sales of automotive fuel (-1.3% vs -4.7%) moderated.

On a monthly basis, retail trade dropped 0.7% in May, following a 0.3% rise in the preceding month.
