Estonia Retail Sales Slow in May

Retail sales in Estonia increased by 1.8% year-on-year in May 2025, slowing from a five-month high of a 5.5% gain in the previous month.

Sales continued to decline for food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized stores (-32.4% vs -24.8% in April), audio and video equipment, hardware, paints, glass, and electrical household appliances (-3.2% vs -1.6%), and sales in non-specialized stores (-7.7% vs -5.7%).

In addition, sales slipped for non-specialized stores with food, beverages, and tobacco predominating (-3.9% vs 0.5%) and textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods in specialized stores (-6.5% vs 2.5%).

At the same time, sales moderated for automotive fuel in specialized stores (12.8% vs 18.3%) and for computers, peripheral units and software, telecommunications equipment, etc., in specialized stores (26.7% vs 33.7%).

On a monthly basis, retail trade rose by 2.9%, easing from a 6.7% gain in the preceding month.
