Czech Republic Retail Sales Growth Tops Forecasts

Retail sales in the Czech Republic climbed by 5.8% year-on-year in April 2025, exceeding market expectations of a 3.2% rise and an upwardly revised 3.9% advance in the previous month.
This marked the strongest expansion since December 2024, driven by higher sales for automotive fuel (12.3% vs 9.6% in March) and food, beverages and tobacco (3.7% vs -0.5%).
Additionally, trade continued to increase for non-food products (5.7% vs 6.1%), albeit at a slower pace.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity rose by 1.2% in April, the sharpest in four months, following an upwardly revised 0.8% gain in the preceding period.
