China’s imports eased to USD 271.35 billion in May 2026 from a record USD 274.62 billion in April. Despite the slight monthly decline, import growth accelerated to 27.4% year-on-year from 25.3% in April, marking the 12th consecutive month of expansion. The sustained increase highlighted resilient domestic demand, particularly for industrial inputs and consumer goods, even as inflationary pressures intensified due to ongoing supply-chain disruptions and elevated energy costs. The strong annual growth also reflected a relatively low base of comparison from the previous year. source: General Administration of Customs
